Real Madrid destroyed Real Zaragoza 0-6 away from home on the first day of La Liga season. Wonderful performance by all the players to say the least. Di Maria missed a sitter during the second half but that did not matter anyway.
What mattered was that Benzema looked superb, Kaka scored a wonderful goal, Marcelo was flawless and Ronaldo scored. Every player performed really well for Real Madrid last night. Next week we have the international break so it was really important to go to the break with a strong result.
Ronaldo scored 3 goals and rightly so, he has credited all 3 to the team rather than to himself. Pretty easy goals, but it was the pace of Ronaldo’s movement that made those goals look a bit too easy. Ronaldo has now scored 4 goals in 3 official games so far in 2011. Messi has scored 4 goals in 3 games so far in 2011. It is going to be another tight race between the two.
What I would really like is a similarly close fought race between Real Madrid and Barcelona for every trophy this season. Ronaldo can score goals we all know that, I would not be surprised if he surpasses his 40 goal mark this season.
He looks fit and strong, strongest I would say. Ronaldo also thinks that Kaka is an important player for the team, I was glad that the whole team formed a hurdle around Kaka when he scored. May be they all wanted to show Mourinho that Kaka is a player that all of them want not to be sold.
Zaragoza did have some notable players missing due to injury but that should not dampen the spirits of Real Madrid supporters nor the players, it was a difficult team but Real Madrid played at another level. Remember, last season Real Zaragoza beat Real Madrid at home, so no matter how much you think Zaragoza are a small club with big problems, they can still beat teams if they are allowed to.
Mourinho therefore was rightly delighted with the performance. Mourinho was delighted with the fact that the team played with a lot of intensity and seriousness. He also said he was glad that they have the three points after game 1 as last season they had only 1 point after the first game of the season, I think it was against Mallorca.
I really want to see how many Ronaldo wants to score this season, I think he will take it day by day (or match by match) and see where it gets him to. Oezil played well too. It was refreshing to see that Mourinho did not play with a holding midifielder.
There was no khedira, so instead, Mourinho went for Coentrao and Xabi Alonso in the middle. Though Coentrao played all over the pitch last night, he is very adaptable.I don’t know if it is a bit too early to call, but Real Madrid look all set to wrestle La Liga title away from Barcelona due to the fact that:
- Mourinho’s second season is always littered with trophies, big ones
- Mourinho has got plenty of depth now in his squad. With players like Higuain, Diarra and Kaka sitting on the bench.
- Mourinho does not have to worry about Valdano any more. He can relax and focus on things that needs to be focused on.
- Ronaldo is scoring goals and still has not lost his touch and sharpness in front of goal.
- Benzema has finally become the striker Mourinho wanted him to become from day one of his reign at Real Madrid.
