Some good news and some bad news as far as Real Madrid is concerned. Jose Mourinho has said that Real Madrid are not close to signing Adebayor from Manchester City. That was the bad news even though Mourinho admits that, it will make no difference whether Adebayor comes to Real Madrid or not, he will still remain in close contact with Real Madrid and all its officials.
Now, the good news. Good news is that Mourinho has also said that selling Benzema is not an option. He is not for sale and is an important part of the team. Another good news is that Kaka has been named in the squad for Real Madrid’s tour of China. Ronaldo is also included but that is hardly a surprise or is it.
Here is the full squad which will be touring China.
Goalkeepers: Casillas, Adan, Tomas Mejias, Jesus.
Defenders: Arbeloa, Ramos, Albiol, Pepe, Varane, Carvalho, Marcelo, Coentrao, Nacho.
Midfielders: Xabi Alonso, Khedira, Sahin, Callejon, Granero, Ozil, Kaka, Di María.
Strikers: Ronaldo, Benzema, Higuain, Jese.
Adebayor spent 6 months at Real Madrid and scored some important goals in his short stint at Real Madrid. He also missed some sitters but none of his missed chances particularly cost Real Madrid any points or titles. Overall, he had a positive effect on the team and on the Bernabeu crowd.
Adebayor was watching from the stands as Real Madrid beat Leicester City 2-1 in their USA tour. Benzema and Callejon were among the scorers. Mourinho said that Adebayor was only there as a friend and not to secure his move to Real Madrid.
Here is what Mourinho said about Adebayor’s situation:
“No. He is here because he is our friend and he belongs to us. He is one of us,” Mourinho said when asked if Adebayor was at the King Power Stadium to seal a transfer to the Liga side. “It doesn’t matter if he is playing at Real Madrid or Manchester City or another club, he is one of us. He was with us for six months and went to the heart of everybody. He is a great lad and everybody loves him.
“When he called us asking permission to come here today, there was not one second of thought. He was with us in the dressing room and he is always welcome.
“If he comes he comes, if he doesn’t it doesn’t matter. We will all know by August 31 who is in and who is out and where they are playing. But today he came as a friend and he is always welcome.”
So that does for today as far as Real Madrid is concerned. I will soon be writing up a post about “Roberto Carlos vs Marcelo vs Coentrao”. I think we all know who would turn out as the best but just for the sake of comparison I’ll try and run through some of the statistics and their qualities both on and off the pitch.
