Everton are the latest who are interested in signing Canales. First, it was Villareal but now EPL clubs also look to be interested in the 20 year old.
Everton had tried to sign the youngster some two years ago as well, but obviously Canales had the choice of either going to Everton or to Real Madrid and we know what choice he made on that one.
Now Everton have a fresh opportunity to sign Canales though on loan only as Jose Mourinho is believed to have told Canales to search for first team football someplace else.
Everton is not like Real Madrid when it comes to spending on players, so this loan deal could work in their favor. They want a good player without having to pay much money, so Canales is the answer for them, given that Everton can pay his wages.
The reason why Villareal did not get Canales was because Real Madrid do not want to sell Canales. Real Madrid’s Jose Mourinho wants him, but he wants him with a bit of first team experience. With Real Madrid, you cannot get experience because you are expected to win every match and every trophy so there is no room to develop any youngster in the squad.
Of all clubs, Arsenal were also interested in Canales, but reports say that Real Madrid wanted Fabregas in exchange. What a deal that would have been and if it was a direct swap, then that would have been the deal of the century. Obviously, Real Madrid would have had to pay some money too for Fabregas.
I have seen Canales, he is young lad who is very good on the ball. In the few games he has played, he has looked immensely comfortable on the ball and has the ball control to play in the midfield with quite considerable ease. Problem is his accuracy with passing and his physical strength.
Sometimes he gets manhandled by defenders and that is where his effectiveness in the midfield is put to the sword.
For now, I think Everton are the strongest contender to sign Canales. They will probably lose Arteta to Valencia and that just means that they will try even harder to get Canales, at least on loan.
