Reports have it that Coentrao deal is still not dead. Real Madrid and Benfica have not been able to come to an agreement till now but new reports suggest that Real Madrid are willing to make a deal with some players involved as well.
Real Madrid apparently want to get this deal done and dusted rather quickly and are willing to exchange more than one players with Benfica for Coentrao along with some money.
I don’t know why the deal is taking so long, considering that Real Madrid want to sign the player since the end of last season and the player himself has made his desire to join Real Madrid rather public. This deal should have been finalized at least a week ago.
The reason probably is that Real Madrid do not want to pay 30 million euros for Coentrao. Real Madrid want to pay somewhere between 20 to 25 million euros. Coentrao’s buyout clause is ofcourse 30 million euros. That tells me that Benfica do not want to sell Coentrao.
Rather Real Madrid are snatching him away from Benfica by paying out his buyout price.
Real Madrid now have made the possibility of making this deal a part player exchange deal. Along with the money, Real Madrid have offered Garay in exchange for Coentrao. If this does not prove to be enough, Real Madrid are also willing to offer another player, the 19 year old Pablo Sarabia which interested Benfica a lot in the past when they scouted him.
Its a shame Ezquiel Garay has to leave Real Madrid. I would have liked him to have a full season with Real Madrid. He has not been given the opportunity to show his talents, so that is why I cannot measure the loss (if any) of his departure, if the Coentrao deal goes through.
