Real Madrid get Carvalho but 3 Reasons that sucks!!

Real Madrid have sign the Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho. He is a solid defender but is he really needed at Real Madrid or even if Real Madrid do need a central defender, is he the answer to real madrid’s problems?

There reasons why he is not the answer to Real Madrid’s lack of defensive qualities:

He is old. Fact is fact, he is 32 years old. Has only signed a 2 year contract with the option of a signing on for another year. He was one of the world’s best at his peak but not now. Mourinho had him in his squad at Chelsea and also (before that) at Porto. Does this look like an emotional buy to you guys? I don’t know but he certainly is not what you can call, a great potential.
His signing probably means that Real Madrid would not be buying Maicon or Thiago Silva. Which were both two world class defenders. Though they were more expensive than Carvalho but both are younger than him and are at their peaks. It is another fact that their clubs would not sell them at a cheaper price and the fact that I would have loved to see Maicon at Real Madrid, you know, he would have been considered another Galacticos like Roberto Carlos all those years back at Real Madrid
Carvalho’s signing further indicates that Mourinho has no plan to stay at Real Madrid for longer than 3 years (at max). I think he just wants to make a great team for the next 2 or 3 years after which he would leave and Real Madrid would have to sign some more younger players in order to build for the future.

There you go. These were the reasons I think that Real Madrid should not have bought Carvalho. He is known to have concentration lapses during matches and I don’t see in him the desire to win anymore.

Plus the fact that signing Alex from Chelsea or Lucio from Inter Milan would have been cheaper and much better. I think both of those defenders are better than Carvalho at the moment.

Mourinho has been known to revive older player’s careers so I am looking forward to what he does with Ricardo Carvalho.

Certainly a shock signing but hats off to Real Madrid administration for keeping the signing a low profile one. No transfer saga this time otherwise who knows? Real Madrid might have ended up paying 15 or 17 million for a 32 year old defender.

1.He was bought for 8 million. 2.Mourinho was looking for a guy inside the dressing room who could provide intel ie. whats going on between players, players' morale etc. That's pobably why he sıgned hım. 3.You couldn't have bought Lucio for less than 20 million euros.

totally disagree with you….why you think signing a 29yr old for 30 odd million with atleast twice the salary for a position wr we have already the worlds best i mean ramos is better then signing a 32 yr old for just 8 million….He is a good buy… he will give his experience in europe and league.. pepe can become world class soon, he is not thr yet.. Alboil and garey can learn a lot from ricardo….thiago milan wr not ready to sell and hence no chance to buy him. david luiz would have costed 35m plus…if mourinho was thnkning about short term, why he accept to take canales (19yrs) back from loan, bought maria (22 yrs), bought pedro leaon ( 23yrs) bought sami (23 yrs)…he could have easily gone for experience for atleast few of them..its unfair to criticize a very very professional coach…. over that i guess its because of JOSE real madrid is not throwing money crazyly this time around… all our buys wr well bargained… placed wr its was over prized we told get lost…..HALA MADRID

So don't you think that instead of filling the midfield up with new players,

real madrid should had gone for right backs and left backs. I know we have

sergio ramos at right back, but using him as a central defender would be

more beneficial, would not it?

He is not bought as an automatic starter..though he is past his best,he certainly is a good cover for centrebacks if they are injured/suspended..we had garay for that..only one..sergio ramos had to play centre at times..overall a good buy.

I agree but as one of the commenters said, we really need a left back right

now, not a central one. Though I think it might as well have changed now.

Because Pepe is injured long term and now we are hearing that Raul albiol is

also injured now.

I believe in Carvalho, i really hope he can perform at world class level at least one more year. The thing is, i just can't understand why Real isn't looking for a left back, Marcelo is too young and lacks defensive skills, while Drenthe isn't even good enough for Castille.Let's hope Mourinho isn't counting on Arbeloa to fill that spot, since allthought he is a competent defender he really sucks as a left back, and struggles against tough opposition.

I agree. Real Madrid does need a left back. Marcelo is not Champions League

stuff. I think we do need some solid reinforcement in that position.

Real Madrid has signed this year Canales, Khedira, Leon and di Maria which the oldest one is 24. So why would this signing mean Mourinho would leave in 2-3 years? Makes no sense at all. You do even need the routin in a team and not only young talent. With that said, I dont think Mourinho will stay longer anyway. But not for that reason.

I disagree completely that it was a bad signing. Firstly, he's actually a good defender, then here are some other reasons RM needed him:

– Pepe sucks. He has no discipline whatsoever, and is often caught off guard. They need a defender with some discipline and leadership ability to hold the back 4. Carvalho is perfect for that job.
– Ramos isn't that good centrally. His first season he was played in a central position, that didn't go well, point made. But he has gotten older, right? true, but since RM insists on using Pepe, then a central defense with Pepe and Ramos would be eqivalent to giving La Liga to Barca. They're too alike (though Ramos >> Pepe, maybe Ramos-Albiol would work, but Ramos-Pepe won't work as a central defense)
– RM has a very young squad, and the young players can learn from Carvalho.

Carvalho is a good signing.
