Real Madrid vs Sporting Gijon: Preview

Real Madrid vs Sporting Gijon: Preview

Sporting lost 6-1 against Barcelona at their home stadium on Sunday and will try to win their first points in the championship at the Bernabéu tonight.

Real Madrid and Sporting go way back and have always had strong ties. Many players have played for both teams, such as former Real Madrid academy player David Barral and Mate Bilic, ever heard of them before, no? Don’t worry, neither have I, I looked it up in an online encyclopedia, you know which one.

Three consecutive victories have allowed Bernd Schuster’s men to forget about their Matchday 1 defeat against Deportivo. The squad is in high spirits despite the tight schedule that will see them face Sporting, Betis and Zenit tonight, on Saturday and Tuesday, respectively.

This schedule, as well as a few injuries, will force Schuster to use a rotation system again. De la Red and Higuaín have chances of making the starting lineup now that Guti, Sneijder and Gago are injured. They both started against Racing and created the play that gave the Whites their first strike of the evening.

Schuster wants his team to score a goal as soon as possible and the fans want the players to showcase brilliant football.

In order to avoid this from happening, Sporting coach Manolo Preciado has made several changes on his team, leaving regulars Jorge, Sastre and Matabuena back in Gijón. On the other hand, Neru, Diego Camacho, Pablo de Lucas and Omar have made their first squad list this season. A setback for Sporting is Croatian striker Mate Bilic’s niggle on the right ankle.

Prediction

My prediction is a 2-0 win for Real Madrid if Real Madrid score in the second half. If Real Madrid score in the first half then it will be 5-0. Yeah 5-0.

I expect this to be a one sided match, with Real Madrid being the aggressors. I think Sporting will just go out and defend for their lives which will leave Real Madrid with no other choice then to attack with all their men except the two centre backs. Sporting will take advantage of this situation and will try to cause an upset over the mighty Real Madrid.

 CRAZY THOUGHTS

I think Guti will assist in two of the goals (if Real Madrid score 2 goals, if 5 then Guti will assist in 3 I believe). I think Higuain will score with his left foot in the first half inside the penalty box.

Yeah, I know it sounds crazy hye, but we all can take chances and I am taking mine now.

Anyway, on a serious note, I think it won’t be a 6-1 as I think Sporting will defend heavily. Few days ago Sporting was playing at their home so probably attacked a bit too much and Barcelona took full advantage of Sporting’s mistake but now Sporting is playing away from home, in Bernabeu against none other than Real Madrid, so I think they will go for the usual tactics.

The usual tactics will be, counter attacking, playing 5 in the midfield, all men behind the ball when not in posession. A lot of wing play. Sporting’s primary strategy to score a goal will be, getting the ball down the wings and then wupping menacing balls into the Real Madrid penalty box to cause some confusion, which we all know Real Madrid defence is very prone too. Expect a lot of low driven crosses into the box of Real Madrid as well.
