Cannavaro Back In Training

Cannavaro Back In Training

Fabio Cannavaro has resumed training with the rest of the squad after completing his recovery on the pre-Euro 2008 ankle injury.

The World Cup winning captain rejoined Real Madrid’s depleted squad for a training session on Wednesday as Los Merengues continue preparations ahead of Sunday’s Supercopa second leg clash at home against Valencia.

The 34 year old stepped onto the team’s Valdebebas main training pitch to join up with the rest of his available teammates for the first time this season after months and months of intensive rehabilitation work in the gym and on a separate training pitch.

Coach Bernd Schuster only had nine players to work with on Tuesday due to the flurry of International friendlies and Olympic Games commitment. Yesterday, the German only had eight, despite Cannavaro’s return, as Raúl and Javier Saviola were confined to the gym for a light workout.

Cannavaro, sporting a shaved head, trained alongside Dudek, Codina, Salgado, Higuaín, Guti, Robinho and van Nistelrooy and he is expected to continue to step up his training regime as the week progresses. The Italian, however, will not make his comeback this weekend against Los Ché as it is still far too soon and he has yet to reach an acceptable level of match fitness.

And just to add the finishing touch to this article, I am going to personalize this with saying, Cannavaro sucks (with the exception of Barcelona game n 07-08 season) because of his performances since his arrival from Juventus.

Old is not gold in his case, he is slow, stupid and old. Slow is because (obviously) he cannot run fast enough and cannot change direction quickly enough to catch attacker’s in awkward positions and stupid, because he is old and slow, he makes unneccessary challenges which have cost Real Madrid a couple of games last season, though it did not matter in the end because Real Madrid had such a tight grip on the league.

But one could imagine Cannavaro making stupid tackles in Champions League and we all know how high the stakes are there. Anyway, lets hope he can perform to the level he is expected to and can benefit Real Madrid rather than being a mere liability.
