Benfica Enter Drenthe Hunt

News

Benfica are understood to be keen on taking Real Madrid winger Royston Drenthe to Estádio da Luz.

According to news daily Record, Benfica have now turned their attention to the arrival of a left-sided winger after signing Pablo Aimar for the centre of the midfield.

And Drenthe, who can play as a full-back and as a winger, seems to top the list of possible targets drawn up by coach Quique Flores.

As I said Real Madrid signed Drenthe for 14 million pounds and left him warming the bench for the major part of last season, obviously Drenthe is going to consider his options. Next season does not bring any good news for Drenthe as he will face strong competiion from Marcelo and Heinze, who are more experienced and in my opinion more responsible defenders. Responsible in way that both these defenders know what theie limitations are, unlike Drenthe who always tries to go for glory all by himself which could cost Real Madrid some matches in the next season if he plays as a starter.

I think Benfica is in the front of the line of interested clubs in the 21 year old who was named the best player of Euro Under-21 championships in 2007, but I also think that Benfica is going to have some tuff competition with Juventus and Roma for Drenthe’s signature
