Another fringe player in the Los Galacticos squad and guess what, Juventus are the latest Italian team to be linked to Real Madrid’s out-of-favour winger Royston Drenthe.

Drenthe, who can play at full-back or on the wing, only signed for the Spanish giants last year for €14m from Feyenoord but that €14 million does not matter does it? when it comes to Real Madrid I think it is quite the norm that Real Madrid spent a lot on young talents and then just make them sit on the bench, sell them at the end of the season at a price not even half for what Real Madrid pay.

Real Madrid did this to Micheal Owen too, though made quite a few bucks, I think Real Madrid made a profit on that deal when Real Madrid sold Micheal Owen to Newcastle for like £16 million whereas paid only £ 8 million to Liverpool.

Anyway, lets forget Owen and talk about Drenthe. Despite scoring a brilliant goal on his debut against Sevilla in the Spanish Super Cup, the Whoopi Goldberg (an American Hollywood actress, for those who do not know) look-alike has found first-team action hard to come by, and he was largely used as a substitute last season by Real Madrid.

Brazilian youngster Marcelo, and the Argentine Gabriel Heinze have emerged as the preferred left-back options, and Drenthe has been heavily tipped to move away from Madrid this summer, possibly on a loan deal which I do not understand becasue even before Real Madrid signed Drenthe, former Valencia Coach Ronald Keoman said that Drenthe is not a good defender, he is just a good attacking player who can play on the wings, defence is the weaker side  his game. Real Madrid signed him even though Real Madrid already had signed Marcelo the previous season under Capello ‘s regime, then why did waste their money on Drenthe. Well that you have to ask Real Madrid officials.

So now Drenthe has been heavily linked with a transfer to Italy, with Fiorentina said to be particularly interested.

Drenthe could come to Italy,” said FIFA Super Agent Ernesto Bronzetti.

There are a number of clubs interested in him and one of these is Fiorentina, who already asked about him in January. Madrid could decide to give him away on loan.”

Meanwhile, the Italian press claims that Juventus, despite announcing that they will be buying no more players this summer, probably because Juventus do not have enough money, are also considering a loan swoop for the Dutch Under-21 star.
