Real Madrid are closing in on Hamburg midfielder Rafael van der Vaart.
A favourite of Real coach Bernd Schuster, Van der Vaart has already agreed personal terms with Real officials, says Marca.
Real will now seek to finalise a fee with Hamburg over the weekend, though face competition from Atletico Madrid for the Dutchman.
Van der Vaart’s agent, Soren Lerby, said: “There are many clubs interested, we are considering offers, but he is on vacation and has not yet decided anything “
“He would like to play in Spain. In a week he will make a decision.”

Another midfielder, come on, we need a striker, there are too many midfielders already
Ok, so this is probably one of the signs that C.Ronaldo deal is not going so well, wonder why Calderon told rafael Nadal that C.Ronaldo deal is done and dusted. I do not think, Calderon meant that the deal has crashed when he said done and dusted.
Anyway, I think, Real Madrid is not spending wisely, I think this is just a reaction to the good work Barcelona has done so far in the summer market while Real Madrid was obsessed with C.Ronaldo. Barcelona got Daniel Alves, which really pained me a lot as I wanted him to play for Real Madrid so that Sergio Ramos could play in the centre of the defence.
I think Real Madrid has Guti and Sniejder for the position of Van der Vaart, we need a striker for sure. I think it is unconceiveable for Real Madrid to go another season without a striker. Van Nistelrooy is great but we must have a back up or may be play with 2 upfront.
