Real Madrid have offered 20 million euros (31.4 million dollars) to sign Hamburg midfielder Rafael van der Vaart for five seasons, Spanish sports daily Marca said Thursday.
The report comes one day after rival sports daily AS reported that the Spanish champions’ cross-town rivals Atletico Madrid had offered 15 million euros for the 25-year-old Dutch international.
Real Madrid and the Dutch player are in “total” agreement over the transfer, Marca reported without citing sources.
Last week Hamburg’s new coach, Dutchman Martin Jol, said he was counting on the midfielder for the next season which gets underway in mid-August.
Van der Vaart, who joined Hamburg in 2005 and has a contract until 2010, has said that he would like to play in Spain.
“Spain is my preference because my mother Lolita is Spanish,” he told Focus magazine in January.
The player wanted to join Spanish side Valencia last season but the management of the German team refused to give the move the green light.
My Thoughts
Real Madrid want Van Der Vaart. This means another thing too
Ok first I want to say is that,Thank you Madrid for going over Ronaldo,we don’t need him as Robinho is better than him. As for Van Der Vaart.I must admit great player, but with Granero and De la Red back at Real, and Daniel Parejo in reserves we should really think of signing a striker.
This is getting a bit confusing now, I think Real Madrid are begining to loose patience over their Ronaldo persuit as Ronaldo futher delays his decision. So I am happy now that Real Madrid are trying to sign some possible targets apart from Ronaldo before they get out of hand.
I think Van der Vaart would be a good signing not a great signing. I think he is a bit old now at 26, I think Diego who is only 23 would be a much better choice, Diego has also played in the Champions League and has performed well against Real Madrid and Chelsea, which shows that he can lead a team under pressure and can play his game with the big boys too, not like C.Ronaldo who is always a flop in big games.
I think if Real Madrid do not want to sign Diego then the next option should be Quaresma, C.Ronaldo’s deal is coming to a collaspe ( I am assuming this) so I think Robinho is definitely going to stay now. I think Quaresma would be a wonderful signing, he and Robinho could cause havoc in La Liga with their creativity and speed.
I think Real Madrid has grown tired of this Ronaldo saga and after July 7 (which was supposed to be the date Real Madrid wanted C.Ronaldo’s decision on this transfer) has passed, Real Madrid are becoming desperate for reinforcements as their arch rivals Barcelona has done a lot of strengthening since conceding the title to Real Madrid for the past two seasons.
From what I have heard is that Manchester United is demanding 100 million euros which Real Madrid is not willing to pay and Ronaldo has not spoken with Manchester United about this matter, so if a player does not talk to his club about a transfer, how can the actual transfer happen.
I think Real Madrid has realised this (hopefully) and now will look to secure at least Diego (although there are many play makers at Real Madrid already and Quaresma if Inter Milan has not snapped him up already. My other favourite player is Huntelaar and Adriano because Benzema is not going to change club this season.
I think this would also lead to C.Ronaldo staying at Manchester United for another season and naturally C.Ronaldo would not perform that well, as he did last season, and then Real Madrid would come for him again next season and probably would sign him for a lot less than 85 million euros which Real Madrid is prepared to pay this time around.
I want to say to Real Madrid, please do not sign C.Ronaldo now that it is clear that C.Ronaldo just wants money nothing else, that is the reason he is not making his decision quick enough. HALA MADRID for leaving C.Ronaldo
